Just In Time for Foster Youth (JIT) offers comprehensive support to help current and former foster youth achieve self-sufficiency and stability. The programs are designed to address immediate needs and long-term goals through financial assistance, housing support, and transportation resources. Each program is tailored to provide crucial aid and foster a supportive community, ensuring that youth can thrive as they transition into adulthood.

Who Can Apply ( minimum requirements)

  • A current or former foster youth
  • Between the ages of 18-26
  • Currently living in San Diego County
  • Working and/or attending school (or have concrete plans to do so)

Emergency Needs

Emergency Funds provides emergency resources and support to help foster youth manage their immediate financial needs. This includes assistance with rent, utilities, auto repairs, transportation, medical care, and more. Additionally, the program offers mentorship and workshops to promote self-confidence and long-term self-sufficiency.

My First Home program helps foster youth establish a comfortable and well-furnished living space. This program supports youth in transforming their new apartments into welcoming homes by providing furniture, kitchenware, and other essential items through community support and volunteer assistance. It aims to create a stable foundation for success by ensuring that youth have a safe and functional living environment.

The Transportation program addresses the challenges foster youth face in accessing reliable transportation. This program offers resources and support to help obtain driver’s permits and licenses, including study courses, behind-the-wheel training, and vehicle access for road tests. The goal is to remove transportation barriers, making it easier for youth to commute to work or school and achieve greater independence.

This includes tutoring, scholarships, and educational workshops.

Financial Fitness Series

The Financial Fitness series is designed to help transition-age foster youth build confidence and skills in money management. The series includes three progressive levels—Financial Fitness 101, 102, and 103—each focusing on different aspects of financial literacy. You will receive guidance from experienced coaches to support your journey toward financial independence
