First Gen Fellowship

The First Gen Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing essential resources and meaningful support to the first-gen community.You have the opportunity to receive an unrestricted hardship grant of $1000 to support my journey.

Who Can Apply

  • Must be a full-time first gen student currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited U.S. college or university. (Note: Per funding guidelines, eligibility for this grant is limited to domestic students. International applicants are not eligible.)

  • Must be in good academic standing

  • Must be at least 18 years old at the time of application

Deadline

  • The 2025 application cycle is now closed. Stay tuned for updates on when the next cycle opens.

Helpful Tips

  • You can show financial hardship with FAFSA/Pell Grant eligibility, proof of income/loans, or a short statement about your situation (like loss of income, unexpected expenses, or family responsibilities.)
  • If selected, you’ll need to provide your most recent official or unofficial transcript and a copy of your FAFSA Student Aid Report.

Announcement

Awardees will be announced on National First Gen Day Nov 8th, 2025. You can find the announcement on firstgen.org and on Instagram @firstgenfund. Selected applicants will also be contacted directly.

How to Use Funds

Funds must be used for educational expenses (e.g. fees, books, housing, basic needs, professional development opportunities and activities, transportation related to school, and other education-related expenses).
